2012 GO Bonds for Public and Tribal Public Libraries

SB 66, the "2012 Capital Projects General Obligation Bond Act" was approved by the 2012 New Mexico Legislature and approved by the voters in the November 2012 General Election.
On March 7, 2013, Governor Susana Martinez signed Senate Bill 66. Library funding remains intact at $9.83 million.
SB 66 put three separate bond issues on the November 2012 General Election ballot; the specific library bond issue was:
B. $9.83 million to fund public, academic and school libraries statewide at $3 million each, and $700,000 for tribal libraries statewide. (The extra money covers the cost of selling the bonds.)
Language from the law [SFC/SB 66, Pages 25-26]:
B. for library acquisitions and capital improvements at public libraries, public school libraries, academic libraries and tribal libraries statewide:
(1) to the cultural affairs department:
(a) seven hundred thousand dollars ($700,000) for equipment and supplemental library resource acquisitions, including print, non-print and electronic resources, and for planning, designing and constructing capital improvements to include library facilities for tribal libraries statewide; and
(b) three million dollars ($3,000,000) for equipment and supplemental library resource acquisitions, including print, non-print and electronic resources, for non-tribal public libraries statewide.

GO Bond important dates:
September 20, 2015 – reach 5% spending goal for 2014 GO bonds
April 1, 2016 – last day for 2012 GO bond reimbursement requests to be received by the State Library
April 1, 2018 – last day for 2014 GO bond reimbursement requests to be received by the State Library
