Foundation Center Cooperating Collection

E-mail Print

The Foundation Center Cooperating Collection, located on the 2nd floor of the New Mexico State Library, is open to the public from 10:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.

The Foundation Center Collection concentrates on funding from private foundations for non-profit organizations. The Foundation Directory Online and Foundation Grants to Individuals Online databases are available for use at all research workstations in the State Library. Corresponding print Foundation Center directories are augmented with local publications when available, as well as information on corporate giving, nonprofit management, fund-raising techniques and proposal writing. Information is also available on Federal and State grants. Much of this is a reference collection, but there are circulating copies of some popular materials.

You may need to spend considerable time at the State Library’s Foundation Center Collection researching what foundations might be interested in funding your type of project. The reference staff can help you get started on your search.  State Library staff can provide answers to simple funding questions received by phone or e-mail. Call 505-476-9702 or Ask-a Librarian.

The State Library sponsors a Traveling Collection of Foundation Center Materials which rotates
through libraries in New Mexico. This collection is designed to help provide local access for libraries and other non-profits in their communities to information about funding. Each location gets to keep the Traveling Collection for six weeks. Librarians can call the State Library Public Services Bureau at 1-800-876 -2203 to schedule the collection.   Foundation Traveling Collection Bibliography

Your local library may have several of the basic tools to use in seeking for grants or can try to borrow current grant-seeking materials through Interlibrary Loan. In most cases the newest, and therefore most useful, materials will be available for use in libraries only.
