2020 General Obligation Bonds
for Public and Tribal Public Libraries
The 54th Legislature, State of New Mexico, Regular Session, 2020, approved SB207, the "2020 Capital Projects General Obligation Bond Act"
Language from the law [SB207, pp. 21-22]:
B. for library acquisitions at public libraries, public school libraries, academic libraries and tribal libraries statewide:(1) to the cultural affairs department:
(a) three million dollars ($3,000,000)for equipment, library furniture, fixtures and supplemental library resource acquisitions, including print, non-print and electronic resources, collaborative library resources and information technology projects, and for the purchase and installation of broadband internet equipment and infrastructure at non-tribal public libraries statewide; and
(b) five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) for equipment, library furniture, fixtures and supplemental library resource acquisitions, including print, non-print and electronic resources, collaborative library resources and information technology projects, and for the purchase and installation of broadband internet equipment and infrastructure at tribal libraries statewide;
Library bond issues were successful statewide in the 2020 New Mexico General Election.
State General Obligation Bond B, providing $9,751,433 million for public, academic, public school and tribal libraries passed by a margin of 254,767votes. With 524,369 yes votes and 269,872 no votes, Bond B won with 66.01% in favor, 3 percentage points lower than attained by library bond issue B in 2018.

ALLOCATIONS TO THE PUBLIC LIBRARIES
Allocations are based on the 4.5.8 NMAC, Distribution of Funds. The allocations are being finalized, using 2019 Estimated Census information for Counties and 2010 U.S. Census for the libraries' Legal Service Areas.
